Our Piedmont College Innovation & Discovery Center provides educational support and opportunities through inquiry, collaboration, and leadership serving as a hub for interaction and exploration among STEM and STEAM learners, educators, and partners. The center is currently assisting a local high school student studying the mesohabitat of a recently identified bass species for presentation to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources. These opportunities and our annual summer STEM camp introduce and develop project-based learning and place-based education for learners and educators across our northeast Georgia region.
The Piedmont College School of Education is proud to share our successful launch of a STEM Educator Certificate Endorsement Program!
In the vein of our Woodrow Wilson Teaching Fellowship, this program seeks to transform P-12 certified educators from grade-level, and in some cases discipline-specific, classroom teachers to STEM educators who demonstrate through their practice, dispositions, skills, and STEM habits of mind.
Through field work, online and face-to-face coursework, collaborative endeavors, and demonstrated application, current candidates in our Piedmont College Georgia STEM Education Endorsement Program pilot are developing as STEM educators who understand STEM teaching and learning is interdisciplinary, a way of thinking, a process, and collaborative; that STEM has a pedagogy, requires cross disciplinary knowledge of content and assessment, and is experiential in nature.
