Renewal & Scholarship at PERC!

Fellows from all three cohorts attended and presented at our 6th Annual Piedmont Educator Renewal Conference (PERC) on Saturday, March 24th.  Fellows' contributions to scholarship and practice included the following topics:
  • Where Did They Get THAT Idea? Students' Misconceptions, Dr. Teresa Secules (PC faculty), Dr. Leslie Dunham (Meadowcreek HS Science Teacher, Cohort 1), and John Sexton (Cohort 3)
  • The Clinical Triad: Learning as a Team, Dr. Kelly Land (PC faculty), Zanoria Echols (Cohort 3), and Jonathan Long (Cohort 3)
  • Break Out of the Monotony! Mike Owensby (Cohort 3) and Christy Whitener (Cohort 3)
  • Technology: Generation of Adult Babies, Robyn Chuck (Cohort 3), Martina Smith (Cohort 3), and Catherine Trice (Cohort 3)
  • Grading for Mastery, Robert Woodworth (Host Teacher, North Hall HS), Jennifer Smith (Cohort 3)
  • Uncovering Student Misconceptions through Formative Assessment, Shelby Schuller (Meadowcreek HS Math Teacher, Cohort 1)
  • Will Savannah Submerge? Colin Cederna (Cohort 3) and Aharon Poorman (Cohort 3)
  • Addressing Scientific and Mathematical Misconceptions in the Classroom, Dr. Teresa Secules (PC faculty), Dr. Leslie Dunham (Meadowcreek HS Science Teacher, Cohort 1), and Ben Manning (Cohort 3)
  • Engaging Students with Card Sort Assessments, Dr. Dustin Williams (Cohort 3) and Jami Brownlee (Cohort 3)

Dr. Tommy Welch, Principal of Meadowcreek High School in Gwinnett County and Georgia Secondary Principal of the Year delivered the keynote address.

Dr. Mary Bradbury-Bailey, Science Department Chair at Cedar Shoals High School and Woodrow Wilson faculty member received the Friend of Education Award, presented by Dr. Don Gnecco, Dean of the Piedmont College School of Education.

AND...
​Dr. Julie Palmour (PC Woodrow Wilson Georgia Teaching Fellowship Project Director) and Dr. Randy Hollandsworth  (Instructional Technology Program Coordinator and Woodrow Wilson faculty) assembled a JellyBox 3D printer with the assistance of Joe Marshall (Cohort 1) and Valerie Brown (Cohort 1).
